Densipan
Densipans are formed due to the tight packing of the fine sand particles, not due to a cementing agent like silica, iron or carbonate. This earthy pan is known to occur in bleached A2 horizons of Podosols in south-east Queensland and Tasmania (Isbell et al. 1997) but are likely to occur in similar soils elsewhere in Australia. Other earthy pans have been recently found in South Australia in horizons that a not bleached A2s. These appear below a bleached A2 horizon and are brown in colour. See photos below.
