Gritty
Soils with a gritty feel are commonly associated with soil parent materials such as granite and coarse grained sandstone. In the profile below, this property is most strongly expressed in the bleached A2 horizon. The >2 mm fraction of gritty material from this horizon is illustrated in the sieve.

This Gritty-Lithic Brown Tenosol is developed from granite and typically contains sufficient angular sand and small coarse fragments to be readily felt as gritty with texturing.
