About Soil Science Australia

Soil Science Australia is the national soil science body and a not-for-profit professional incorporated association for soil scientists and people interested in the responsible management of Australia’s soil resources. Learn more about who we are, our Federal Council and Executive Committee.

Officially known as ‘The Australian Society of Soil Science Incorporated’, Soil Science Australia (SSA) was established in 1955 to advance soil science.

Soil Science Australia events, projects and programs are largely member run and we are grateful to our partners and supportersfor their ongoing contribution.
Our members include students, early career soil professionals through to internationally-renowned experts.

Soil Science Australia is a registered charity and a not for profit, membership association.

Corporate governance

Soil Science Australia’s governing body is the Federal Council.

The Federal Council consists of the Executive Committee, the President of each of the seven branches, and the Chair of the Certified Professional Soil Scientist Board.

Statement of purposes and rules

Soil Science Australia is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 of the Australian Capital Territory.

The current Statement of Purposes and Rules was revised and agreed at the 2019 Annual General Meeting.
