Conference Awards
Soil Science Australia Conference Presentation Awards
Conference awards include the best oral presentation of a paper and the best poster display for students, early career, and experienced soil scientists. Awards are made on the basis of the most effective communication of the presenter’s work to a scientific audience as follows:
- most meritorious oral presentation given by an early career soil scientist who is either currently undertaking, or has completed, their tertiary studies since the last Soil Science Australia conference, consisting of a certificate and a sum of money.
- most meritorious poster presentation given by an early career soil scientist who is either currently undertaking, or has completed, their tertiary studies since the last Soil Science Australia conference, consisting of a certificate and a sum of money.
- most meritorious oral presentation given by a scientist not eligible for award the oral presentation award above, consisting of a certificate.
- most meritorious poster presentation given by a scientist not eligible for the poster presentation award above, consisting of a certificate.
- Johan Bouma Award for the best oral presentation integrating hard and soft sciences consisting of a certificate.
The conference awards are open to all soil scientists entering an abstract or poster at the National Soil Conference. In the event of a joint Australian New Zealand national soil conference the conference awards are open to Australian soil scientists or soil scientists working in Australia.
The work presented may be under joint authorship but the presenter must be the senior author.
Nomination Process
Authors must indicate their interest in a conference award(s) when registering their abstract and/or poster for the conference.
Awards Presentation
The conference awards are presented by the Federal President or conference convener or proxy at the close of each national conference held by Soil Science Australia or national conference held jointly with the New Zealand Society of Soil Sciences.
Student Conference Support
Support will be provided for a number of students to attend the 2020 soils conference. Students must apply for support through their branch and must have been a member of Soil Science Australia for at least one year. Application forms will be available in the year of the conference.
World Congress of Soil Science Support
Support will be provided to assist members attend the United Kingdom World Congress of Soil Science. Applicants are required to have been a member of Soil Science Australia for at least four years. Application forms will be available in the year of the Congress.
Soil Science Australia will also support attendance by a national soil judging team at the World Congress of Soil Science. More information will be available in the year of the Congress.
Student Soil Judging Teams Support
Soil Science Australia supports National Soil Judging Competition teams in the year of a national conference. Applicants applying for either a state or university team should be financial members of Soil Science Australia. Application forms will be available in the year of the conference.
