Soil Science Australia (SSA) is pleased to acknowledge PSK Environmental as a valued and ongoing participant in our Corporate Benefits Program.
Based in south-east Queensland, PSK is an environmental consultancy with particular expertise in Acid Sulfate Soils and contaminated land assessment. The company’s work spans a wide range of projects across the civil, industrial, and infrastructure sectors, with a strong emphasis on scientific integrity and practical outcomes.
PSK has maintained a consistent and active relationship with Soil Science Australia over many years. The organisation has played a significant role in supporting early-career professionals and the broader soil science community.
One example of their support to the soil science community is their sponsorship of our Queensland branch’s PSK SSA (Queensland) Emerging Leaders Award, which recognises and supports the development of emerging soil scientists. In 2024, the award supported Liam Thompson’s attendance at the joint SSA and New Zealand Society of Soil Science conference in Rotorua, where he took part in the Moana Soil Judging Competition and presented his research.
Meet the PSK Environmental team supporting Soil Science Australia through active membership and professional engagement:
Dr Silvana Santomartino is PSK’s Founding Director and a Principal Geochemist. A Certified Professional Soil Scientist with Contaminated Site Assessment and Management speciality (CPSS-CSAM), and Registered Soil Practitioner in Acid Sulfate Soils (RSP-ASS) she provides specialist advice relating to ASS and Contaminated Land. Silvana is a Past President of the Qld branch of SSA (2017-2018) after serving of the committee for 10 years in various roles.
Dr Anne Schneider is an Associate Environmental Scientist with a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Queensland. She is a CPSS and RSP-ASS. She applies her knowledge in soil science, GIS and statistics to support PSK’s various environmental projects. Anne has been an active member of the SSA committee over the past 5 years holding several positions, including Branch Secretary from 2022 to 2024.
Dr Amir Shiva is a Senior Environmental Scientist (Operations) with a PhD in Environmental Chemistry. He supports the team in the areas of ASS and contaminated land.
Mrs Aimee Aoake is an Environmental Scientist with a background in Earth Science from Queensland University of Technology. She contributes to a variety of environmental assessment and management projects.

“Because this community gives us so much, we’re proud to give back through volunteering on the branch committee, sponsoring events, helping to deliver workshops and participating on various taskforces,” Dr Santomartino said.
