This Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) webpage reports on research trials led by agronomist Sam Trengove that investigated the use of chicken litter to address soil constraints on sandy soils over three seasons starting in 2015. Field trials were conducted at Bute, South Australia, and assessed combinations of deep ripping with annual fertiliser, clay application and chicken litter. The trials examined how these treatments affected soil fertility, crop yield and constraints such as poor nutrient retention and low organic matter under variable seasonal conditions. Results showed that chicken litter can improve nutrient supply and crop growth, although responses varied depending on soil type, application rate and season. While the trials were conducted in South Australia, the findings are relevant to other Australian regions with similar sandy soils and soil fertility constraints.#
This is a carefully curated database of important soil resources. The data base is not exhaustive but rather a library of the resources we believe are the most useful for the audience. Each resource has been added after careful consideration against our selection criteria, including but not limited to its scientific validity, accessibility, and readability. The library generally does not include most academic research papers but may include some open-source papers written in accessible English.
