Paddock Practices: Tips and tools for planning management of soil constraints in 2019 – WA (Factsheet)
This Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) factsheet reports the outcomes from the collaborative Soil Constraints West project (2014-19). It investigated practical solutions to managing key soil constraints – acidity, compaction, water repellence, and deep subsoil issues (including sodicity). Key findings show that addressing soil constraints can deliver substantial economic, productivity and sustainability benefits. Overall, the project found that addressing soil constraints has the potential to increase cropping returns by $100 per hectare or more across the WA grainbelt. The factsheet provides an overview of common constraints and the tactics being successfully trialled by researchers and growers and includes links to related factsheets and tools such as the Ranking Options for Soil Amelioration (ROSA) model and the Controlled Traffic Farming calculator. The link to the lime profit calculator is broken. Although focused on Western Australia, these insights may also be useful for growers in other Southern cropping regions.#
This is a carefully curated database of important soil resources. The data base is not exhaustive but rather a library of the resources we believe are the most useful for the audience. Each resource has been added after careful consideration against our selection criteria, including but not limited to its scientific validity, accessibility, and readability. The library generally does not include most academic research papers but may include some open-source papers written in accessible English.
