This report, from the Whitsunday Regional Council, provides an assessment of soil types and their suitability for 12 different agricultural land uses across the Whitsunday Coast region in Queensland. The land uses include sugarcane, horticulture, forestry, orchards and pasture. The study identifies soil landscapes, describes their physical and chemical properties, and evaluates limitations such as erosion risk, drainage, salinity, acidity, and fertility. It includes maps and tables showing how local soils rate for the different land uses. While this report focuses on the Whitsunday Coast, the findings would be relevant to coastal and near-coastal soils in tropical north Queensland [PDF 3.3 MB, 214 pages]. #
