Using soil moisture data to plan for autumn and winter – NSW (Video)
In this Local Land Services NSW video, farmer Hugh Webb explains how real-time data from the Edith soil moisture probe helps him make informed decisions on pasture growth, crop sowing and livestock management. Checking soil moisture and temperature regularly helps predict seasonal pasture growth. Using real-time probe data helps farmers assess whether they have enough moisture heading into autumn. Tracking regional trends through Farming Forecaster provides insights beyond a single farm. Farming Forecaster is currently active in eastern NSW, Tasmania, northern Victoria and in south west Western Australia. Comparing year-on-year data supports smarter decisions for stocking rates and feed budgeting. While this video was produced for NSW farmers, the information is relevant to similar regions that have access to the soil moisture probe technology in southern Australia [7:48].#
This is a carefully curated database of important soil resources. The data base is not exhaustive but rather a library of the resources we believe are the most useful for the audience. Each resource has been added after careful consideration against our selection criteria, including but not limited to its scientific validity, accessibility, and readability. The library generally does not include most academic research papers but may include some open-source papers written in accessible English.
